Based on my previous post on PC buying guide, I wish to explain some of the most important things to be followed while getting a system assembled. I will focus on two crucial parts of the system, where most people / dealer fails to concentrate. SMPS and PC cabinet (Casing). Related Links.
SMPS is very important, but most people compromise since power supply never comes into picture while working. But the fact is, almost every issue in a computer is directly or indirectly caused by the power supply unit. Even external power (Wall Socket at your home/office) has to be considered.
Check your electrical setup of your home/office with the help of some professional people. Consider the experts suggestion and try to rectify it.Never take power issues for granted.
1) Check the wiring setup.
2) Check Rated / Actual power you get practically.
3) If required install a stabilizer ( Addition to the Computer UPS ) ,MCB and ELCB switch ( probably the most important part of a household supply ). Considering the personal / computer safety take this suggestion serious.
4) Get some branded ( Cooler Master, Thermaltake, Corsair, Antec, Vantec, Huntkey,…) power supply. Of course, it is costly. But it is very important.
Important: “Electrolytic capacitor aging. When used heavily or over an extended period of time (1+ years) a power supply will slowly lose some of its initial wattage capacity. We recommend you add 10-20% if you plan to keep your PSU for more than 1 year, or 20-30% for 24/7 usage and 1+ years”. Most SMPS, works with reduced efficiency under full load.
PC cabinet is very important since all the costly hardware you going to install will rest in it. So its my personal suggestion to go for a branded ( CoolerMaster, .. ) cabin rather confusing with its price compared with some unknown manufacturer. Things to be noted before getting a cabinet for your PC(based on step 1 in Part 1):
1) Avoid low weight cabins. (made of plastic, fiber)
2) Enough room for future upgrade. (Hard Disk, DVD Drives, etc)
3) Good air flow. (At least 120mm fan in the font and rear panel, two 80mm fan in the side cabinet, optional fan in the top and bottom). Some cabins come with advance fan controller and temperature sensors. If you can get such a cabin it would be added advantage to your computer.
Suppose if you are not able to afford for a branded casing,No worries get some low end cabins but consider the above suggestion while choosing the casing rather considering the outlook alone.
