Usage tips for Laptop :

1. Don’t ever touch the screen with fingers, pointers or other pointed objects. The screen is Liquid Crystal Display, and hence very sensitive.
2. Also, keep your laptop away from dusty and humid conditions.
3. Keep a soft cloth handy, and if the screen seems very dirty, wipe it gently. Cotton cloths work best. Make sure you never use any detergent or soap solution to clean the screen.

4. Also, be very particular about the posture you use while working on your laptop. Make sure you have a comfortable chair.
5. If you use laptop for many hours at a stretch, make sure you take brief breaks in between. A 10 min break for every 90 minutes of usage is recommended. You can also get a pair of plain glasses with an anti glare coating. This minimizes the strain on your eyes.
6. A heavy user should purchase a USB mouse. It plugs into the USB port of your laptop, and you can use it like a regular mouse. This saves your mouse pad from deterioration over the long run.
7. Make sure you only have original software installed on your laptop.
8. Another very interesting thing I came to know recently was that you could use your pen drive as additional RAM!!! Yes, the feature is available in Vista. But I recommend that you use the same when your system performance is down and speed is slow. I recommend you use it as a temporary measure and not make it a habit.
9. Make sure you take regular backups of your data. I’ve seen my friends suffer irreparable losses because of no backups; and with pen drives becoming cheap, it’s not that hard either. You can also use “System Restore” option in Windows for the same.
10. Do get a good antivirus or internet security and keep it updated to keep your data safe.
11. Now, one thing that we all seem to neglect is the battery. Make sure you don’t use your laptop every time on the battery. This is because the battery has a fixed number of recharge cycles (which also varies according to your usage pattern). But, don’t do the other extreme either. Don’t always use the main AC supply. Remember- Your battery works best when you occasionally use the battery but most of your usage is on main AC power.
12. It’s not recommended to charge your laptop on Inverter or Generator power. This is because power supply in these cases is not pure AC and may cause damage to the adaptor. However, if you use Pure Sine Wave inverters, you are safe.
13. Occasionally use the “Disk Defragmenter” option in Windows. This help to improve speed a little.
14. Your laptop is a sophisticated electronic equipment- banging the screen or throwing it carelessly on the bed will actually cause problems in the long run. So make sure you treat it with a little respect.
